Cecilia is getting close to her wedding to Devin Montlake. They have known each other for years, but she is having doubts as he wants her to take comportment lessons. Does he actually want her for herself? On top of this, her mother is ill and they are auctioning off her jewels to provide a dowry for Cecilia and her younger sister, Evangeline. When those jewels are stolen though, and Devin is suspected of the crime, Cecilia and Evangeline go out of their way to prove his innocence.
This was a wonderful read - full of want and need, along with propriety and scandalous behaviour! I mean, MESH gloves! The sheer impudence! Very well-written, with no editing or grammatical errors that I could see, this story flowed along at a steady pace building up to the confrontation and climax. The connection between Cecilia and Devin was there to see, but it was a wonderful moment when Devin realised just who he had by his side.
A genteel mystery that is full of drama and action. I would definitely recommend this book and look forward to the next book in the series.
